How to Find the Serial Number/Version for BRU PE

Get the Version & Serial Number:

With BRU PE, the version may be found by:

  1. Open BRU PE.
  2. From the menu bar, select BRU PE of OS X.
  3. Select "About BRU PE for OS X."
  4. On the About window, you will see the version of BRU, BRU PE (and build number), and your license information.

Note that above the BRU Version, BRU License, and BRU Serial Number are listed.  Also listed is the BRU PE version (2.0.0 build 53).

Obtain the Serial Number & Version for BRU PE via the CLI

If, for whatever reason, you cannot gain access to the "About BRU PE" menu, the below steps with provide you with an additional method from which you can obtain the serial number and version of BRU.

Get the Version & Serial Number:

1. Open a Terminal window (the Terminal application can be found at Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.app).

2. Type in the following command at the prompt:

    $ bru -h
			

The above command will show an output of the version information which should look something like the following:

    # bru -h
    usage: bru -cdeghitx [-#AabBCDEfFGIjlLmnNoOpPQRSrsTuUvVwXYZ] file(s)...
    Examples:
    backup: bru -cvf /dev/tape /path-to-backup
    restore: bru -xvf /dev/tape /file(s)-to-restore

The only two fields that you need are the first two in the lower block of information. The "Release" and "Serial number" fields.

3. Close the Terminal application by selecting Quit from the File menu.
